Lois Marie Russell

Lois Marie Russell of Waukesha died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Waukesha Springs at age 84. Lois was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on Dec. 9, 1923, the daughter of Bernard and Mayme (nee Savage) Bierie.

Lois married Rolland Russell on Aug. 2, 1950. During World War II, she was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. and then KDTH radio station in Dubuque, Iowa. She was also employed at John Deere. After she married in 1950, they moved to West Allis. In 1962, they moved to Waukesha and Lois was a Welcome Wagon hostess. They moved to Pittsburgh, Pa.; Akron, Ohio; and then Los Angeles, where Lois worked for Allstate Insurance. In 1969, they moved back to Waukesha and she worked as a claims adjustor for Allstate in Brookfield for 20 years.

Lois loved to play bridge and was a member of the Milwaukee and Waukesha bridge clubs. She started the Allstate Retirees Club called the "Lunch Bunch." She was also a member of the Waukesha Women’s Club, the Catholic Study Club and St. Joseph’s Christian Mothers. In 1987, she was an officer in charge of the One Day Tours for St. Joseph’s Elders.

Lois will be sadly missed by her husband, Rolland; son, David (Betsy) Russell of Cross Plains; granddaughter, Zoe Russell; brother, John (Barbara) Bierie of Indian Wells, Calif.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard Russell in 1956; sisters, Ruth and Jane; brother, George; brothers-in-law, Chip and Robert; and sister-in-law, Linda.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial for Lois will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. William Key will officiate. The visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, Feb. 12, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A second visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession for the 11 a.m. Mass. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
