Gail Beltran (nee Herker)
Nov. 11, 1940 - Dec. 21, 2007
Gail Beltran (nee Herker) was born into this world Nov. 11, 1940, and born to eternal life Friday, Dec. 21, 2007. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor. She missed him terribly, especially around the holidays, and wished to spend Christmas with him again. Though we miss her, we are glad she got her wish.
Gail worked at Head Start in Waukesha for over 30 years, educating children living in poverty. She later assisted in a program aimed at providing emotional support to the parents of these children. She loved to read to kids and believed this could improve their functioning throughout life. She believed having pets was important to assist kids in learning to care for others, reduce stress, and help ensure a positive environment. She was happy to hear that studies have upheld her theories.
She is survived by her three children and six grandchildren: Danette (Gary) Belcher and Evalyn; Victor Jr. (Janet Schniederwent) and Blaze and Brooke; and Alaina (Gerardo) Ortiz and Janelle, Manuel and Camille. The oldest grandchild in each family will be able to share their memories of Grandma Gail with their younger siblings. She is further survived by her sister, Joy (Tony) Madrigal; brother, Barry Herker; and friends, Jim Newkirk (thanks for being her buddy) and Judy Bilson (thanks for the years of friendship, entertainment, countless favors and assistance to the whole family during this difficult time).
She lived in the Pewaukee/Waukesha area since childhood, and had recently moved to San Antonio to enjoy the warmth.
A memorial service for Gail Beltran will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the lower level of the Child and Family Center of Excellence/Waukesha Head Start Project, N4-W22000 Bluemound Road, Waukesha. Please join us to share memories and say goodbye for now.
