Carl Manak

Jan. 31, 1915 - Feb. 19, 2008

Longtime Waukesha resident Carl Manak died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc at age 93. He was born in Cudahy on Jan. 31, 1915, the son of Joseph and Sophia (nee Kopecky) Manak.

On Dec. 2, 1947, he married June (nee Schock) Manak. Carl started out farming with his family on the outskirts of Waukesha in 1932 and then owned the Club 164 tavern. He operated Manak Realty for many years and later co-owned the Astor Hotel in downtown Milwaukee. Carl was a past president of the Wisconsin Realtors Association and the localToastmasters International Club. He and June were charter members of St. Mary's Catholic Church,where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Waukesha Elks Lodge #400, the Kiwanis Golden K and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Waukesha Council #1825.

Carl will be lovingly missed by his children, Robert (Heidi) Manak of Waukesha and Pam Manak of Waukesha; his grandchildren, Colleen Manak of Milwaukee and Valerie Manak of Madison; sister-in-law, Doreen Manak of Waukesha; nephew, Tom (Ro) Manak of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; along with other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June; brother, Joseph Manak; and sister, Jozephine Manak.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. The Very Rev. James T. Volkert will preside. Private family entombment will be at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery.
