Alvin "Bud" Dirkse

Alvin "Bud" Dirkse, 77, of Palmyra, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Fort Memorial Hospital. He was born May 1, 1930, the son of the late Wilbert and Jenny Dirkse.

Bud delivered to Sentry Food Stores throughout Wisconsin for many years. He was a member of the Palmyra United Methodist Church, where he was instrumental in the reconstruction of the church after the fire. He was also a member of the Palmyra Masonic Temple, Palmyra historical society, past member of the Palmyra volunteer fire department, where he was fire chief; Palmyra village board trustee, interim mayor of Palmyra, and The National Guard. Bud enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting and fixing mechanical things. He was owner and operator of a stock car.

He will be missed by his wife, Charlotte Meyers-Dirkse, of Palmyra; children, John (Kathryn) of Wauwatosa and Linda (Richard Rick Borchlewicz) Dirkse of West Allis; grandchildren, Joshua Dirkse, Hannah Dirkse, Jacob Dirkse, and Nicholas Lepak; stepchildren, Dawn and Ryan (Sue) Meyers; stepgrandchildren, Daniel, Jenna and Cora; sisters, Doris Dori Stephen and Shirley Boos. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; brother, James; and sister, Harriet Piek.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Mealys Funeral Home, 320 W. Main St., Palmyra, with the Rev. William McBride officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Zion Cemetery in Palmyra immediately following the service.
