David E. Barber

David E. Barber of East Troy was born to eternal life Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was 71. David was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Milwaukee, the son of Lloyd and Gertrude (nee Gebhardt) Barber.

David was a 1955 graduate of Mukwonago High School. He then went on to school at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he received a bachelorís degree in education. On Sept. 26, 1959, he married Leona "Lee" Larsen in Elkhorn. Later on, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he received his masterís degree. Dave was a math teacher and basketball coach in the East Troy School District for 32 years, retiring in 1993.

Dave was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Mukwonago, the former Mukwonago Jaycees and the Exhausted Roosters, and was a former member of the Mukwonago Police Commission. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and he loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife, Leona "Lee"; his daughters, Debby (Mike) Lupo and Dori (Bill) Ross, both of Mukwonago; five grandchildren, Becky (Josh) Mertens, Ian Wappenschmidt, Brianna Hanisch, Heather (Christopher) Painter and Trane Ross; one great-grandchild, Christopher Hughes; his brother, Dr. Neil (Erika) Barber of Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Joseph Sauve; a son, Doug Barber; and two brothers, Gilbert and Dennis Barber.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral service Monday, Jan. 21, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 211 Main St., Mukwonago. Cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church or to the Regional Cancer Center at the D.N. Greenwald Medical Center, 240 Maple Ave., Mukwonago, WI 53149, are appreciated.
