Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Droegkamp (nee Zimmerman)

Geraldine Delores ‘Gerry’ Droegkamp (nee Zimmerman) of Delafield, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc. Gerry was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Milwaukee.

She married Harold J. Droegkamp on June 12, 1933.

Gerry graduated from West Division High School, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and pursued graduate studies. She taught school for 25 years, serving communities in Genoa City, Oakfield, Cushing School in Delafield and Kettle Moraine Middle School. Gerry was active in the Girl Scouts, PTA, WEA, Delafield Summit Lioness and the Delafield Presbyterian Church. At the Presbyterian church, she was an elder, financial secretary and always a supporter of the mission causes. She volunteered at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital where she received the Rainbow Award, "Reaching Over and Beyond" by volunteering more than 1,000 hours. Gerry was also an active member of the YMCA since 1983.

She is survived by her daughters, Janis M. Droegkamp in the Peace Corps in Albania and Jane L. (Doug) Lurvey of Delafield. Gerry is also survived by her grandchildren, Holly (Todd) Lindvall, Amy (Ashton) Chase and John Droegkamp; great-grandchildren, Harrison Lindvall, Michael Chase and Christopher Chase; and stepsister, Phyllis Haas of Racine. She is further survived by nieces and a nephew; her special friend, Robert Duncan; best friend, Mary Dillon; and other close friends.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Mildred Zimmerman; her husband, Harold; and a brother, Bruce J. Zimmerman.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Delafield Presbyterian Church, 1851 Genesee St., Delafield. Internment will be at the Delafield City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Fund of Remembrance at the Delafield Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
