Maurine Wallace Holcomb

Jan. 20, 1937 - July 20, 2008

Maurine Wallace Holcomb, 71, of Shallowater, Texas, passed Sunday, July 20, 2008, after a courageous 18-month battle with breast cancer. Maurine was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Waukesha, to Maurice and Emma Wallace.

Shortly after graduating from Waukesha High School, she moved to New Mexico where she married. She later moved to Texas where she lived in several different cities before settling in Shallowater in 1992. Throughout her life, she was employed in various secretarial and banking capacities, at one point working as the secretary for the governor of New Mexico.

Whether through teaching, volunteering or being a good friend and mother, she always cared for others. She will be remembered for her kind heart, strong will, dry sense of humor and boundless love.

She is survived by her brother, William (wife Nancy) Wallace of West Bend, and her two daughters, Julia Holcomb of Dallas and Jennifer (husband Nathan) Boyd of Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, July 25, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in Resthavenís Abbey Chapel followed by a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maurineís honor to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
