Dr. Jerome R. Bischel

Dr. Jerome R. Bischel passed away peacefully at home May 31, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Waukesha and was raised in Dousman.
After graduating in 1954 from Marquette University Medical School, he served his internship and residency at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Army as a pediatrician in Zama, Japan, for two years. Jerry opened the first pediatric practice in Waukesha - Waukesha Pediatrics - with Dr. Jack Guy in 1959 and remained in practice until 1985. He was a founder of the Montessori School of Waukesha Inc., which began in the basement of a medical center, and in 1971, moved to its present location. He was very active in the Waukesha Symphony League for many years.
He was the husband to Margaret Rowland Bischel, who died in 1966, and later was married to Gertrude Murray Bischel until her death in 1985. Jerry moved to Bronxville, N.Y., in 2004 to live with his only daughter, Mary Liz Bischel Kowarick. His daughter, Mary Liz; son-in-law, Frederico; and grandsons, Berent, Peter and Felix survive him. He will be remembered for his generosity and love for his family and friends.
A visitation and funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, at St. Bruno’s Catholic Church in Dousman.
