Donald J. "Don" Eggum

March 16, 1920 -June 3, 2008

Donald J. "Don" Eggum, 88, of Waukesha died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He was born March 16, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Ole and Alma Eggum.

Don was a World War II Navy veteran. After his discharge, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he graduated with a degree in mortuary science. Don then enlisted in the Army upon his discharge, as an officer, and settled in the Milwaukee area. He was appointed Waukesha County coroner by former Gov. Patrick Lucey and won subsequent elections until his retirement after serving 13 years as coroner. Don was a member of American Legion Post No. 8 in Waukesha and was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce (nee Mannie) Eggum of Waukesha. He is also survived by his children, Greg (Ellen) Eggum of Germantown, Jeff Eggum of Waukesha, Leif (Togie) Eggum of Big Bend, Lynn (Jerry) Haines of New Berlin and Thor (Jo) Eggum of Waukesha. Don is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Don was preceded in death by one daughter, Joy Day.

Visitation for Don will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Thursday, June 5, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road, Waukesha. Burial, with military honors, will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Pewaukee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family to be directed to American Legion Post No. 8 in Waukesha would be greatly appreciated by the family.
