Marian Collins-Schmidt (nee Swartz), born Sept. 28, 1910, in New Berlin, passed away in Port Washington.

Marian was preceded in death by her husbands, Matthew Collins in 1965 and Valerian Schmidt (Smitty) in 1984; parents, John Adam Swartz and Margaret (nee Zimmerman); sisters, Katherine (Earl) Whitstone and Helen Swartz; brother, John Adam (Jennie) Swartz II; niece, Ann Gonzales; and nephew, Dick Whitstone.

Marian is survived by her nieces, Virginia (the late Trino) Hernandez of Waukesha, Mary (the late Frank) Garcia of Waukesha, Eleanor (the late Roger) Goodspeed of Duncanville, Texas, Margaret (Cal) Newby of Waukesha, Mary (Dick) Wilson of Waukesha and Joanne (the late David Garcia) Swartz of Ixonia; and nephews, John (Ginger) Whitstone of Waukesha, Larry (Jean) Whitstone of Dousman, Joe (Geri) Whitstone of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and John A. Swartz III of Waukesha. She is also survived by 37 great-nieces and great-nephews and many other relatives and friends, especially Rose Bengs and Richard Struck.

Marian graduated from Lawnsdale Grade School in 1924. Marian entered Waukesha County Technical College in the early 1930s. She was employed at the EB Stillman Law office in early 1932. She spent the next 60 years working for attorney John Hoff. Marian belonged to the First Business Women’s Association in Waukesha, the Legal Business Women Association and the state and national legal associations. Marian loved to travel. Marian was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Her grandfather, Adams Schwarz, was a founding member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and purchased one of the large stained glass windows. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Christian Women for more than 40 years and was also a member of the Waukesha County Historical Society for more than 30 years.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Saturday, June 14, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave., Waukesha, with the Rev. Bill Keys officiating. Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waukesha.
