John F. ‘Jack’ Garity

Feb. 27, 1924 - June 7, 2008

John F. "Jack" Garity of Genesee Depot, born Feb. 27, 1924, in North Prairie, to James "Art" and Helen (nee Smart), died Saturday, June 7, 2008.

John graduated from Waukesha High School in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was called to active duty in January 1943. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in April 1946.

John spent 38 years as an employee of the Waukesha County Highway Department. He retired in June 1989 and spent the remainder of his years as the dedicated and loving caregiver to his wife, Edith.

John married Edith Williams on June 12, 1948. This year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. They had four children: Linda Kennedy of Dilworth, Minn., Patricia (Charles) Hallingstad of Waukesha, Michael (fiancee Shelly) of Cottage Grove and Robert of Genesee Depot. John is also survived by special grandsons, Matthew and Eric Hallingstad, other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, James Garity of Sun City, Ariz.; and was a special family friend of Vincent Dable of Genesee Depot.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.

Family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. William Lutz and the fifth floor nursing staff of Waukesha Memorial Hospital for their special care of John.

Private services were held followed by entombment in Autumn Gardens at Prairie Home Cemetery.

John loved animals - especially dogs. Anyone wishing to donate in memory of John may do so to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County.
