Frances M. Houk

Frances Marjorie Houk, 81, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, after a short illness. She was born in Waukesha County to Carl and Hilda Cox.

She was raised in a small town in Wisconsin and graduated from Waukesha High School. She met and married her best friend, Edwin Houk, in 1947, just after World War II. They enjoyed 61 years of happiness together in Wisconsin, California and Aurora, Ill. When their son, Greg, left for Vietnam in 1968, Fran began working part time at the Jewel-Osco store on Lake Street. She retired in 1995 after many years of visiting and sharing with her co-workers, and enjoying the weekly visits from her regular customers. Even to this day, she enjoys catching up with many of these friends.

Frances enjoyed life to the fullest and always looked on the bright side. She rarely uttered anything except positive thoughts. Even in the deepest snow storm or worst rain, she always thought it was a beautiful day in Aurora. She enjoyed time with her family in Aurora and Wisconsin, and her extended family at the Phoenix Club and Murphy’s. She was regularly seen at St. Rita’s church where she was a member and at the Aurora Library where she carefully chose non-fiction books to read.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edwin of Aurora; her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Joy Houk of Oswego; and her two grandchildren, Amanda of Chicago and Brian of Oswego.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children at birth; her brothers, Carl (Ginnie) and Gordon (Millie); and her sister, June Dabel Weber.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday, March 10, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 136 W. Waukesha Road, Eagle. Interment will be at St. Theresa Cemetery, Eagle.
