GALESBURG, Ill.

William Howard Clark

May 15, 1919 - March 28, 2008

Mr. William Howard Clark, 88, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 5:35 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. He was born May 15, 1919, in Shirland Township, Ill., to James Andrew and Sarah Amner Means Clark.

He married Ruth M. West on June 29, 1940, in Sussex. She survives him.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert Bruce (Amber) Clark of Galesburg and Andrew Earl (Jo) Clark of Green Bay; two daughters, Joan Marie Kline of Lady Lake, Fla., and LeaRae Holzheuter of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

William was a firefighter for the Waukesha Fire Department in Waukesha for 25 years and retired as assistant chief in 1971. He graduated from Waukesha High School. He was a World War II U.S. Navy Seabee veteran from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Waukesha. He was an accomplished tenor sax player and an avid and excellent golfer.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, at the Prairie Home Cemetery chapel, 605 S. Prairie Ave., Waukesha, with the Rev. Robert Clark officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.

Memorials can be made to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College/Firefighters Scholarship Fund.
