John M. Anich

Aug. 1, 1917 - May 2, 2008

John M. Anich of Mukwonago passed away at home Friday, May 2, 2008, at age 90.

He was born in West Allis on Aug. 1, 1917, the fourth son of John L. and Lucy (nee Babich) Anich.

John was a U.S. Marine during World War II and fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal.

On Aug. 15, 1946, he married Caroline M. Karrels, who preceded him in death. John was owner and operator of Anich's Liquor and Beer in Mukwonago until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post No. 375 and VFW Post No. 7221, both in Mukwonago. John was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his children, Lucy Anich (Steven Golladay) of Hopewell Jct., N.Y., Dorothea Anich of Mukwonago, Joan (Gerald) Gasser of Mukwonago, John (Gail) of Viroqua, Marianne (Roger) Walsh of Mukwonago, Gerald (Kathleen) of Mukwonago, Robert (Suzanne) of Waterville, Maine, Howard (Morna) of Eagle and Donna Anich (William Blechinger) of Amery; his sisters, Julia Noble of Greenfield, Mary (Charles) Weinkauf of Mukwonago and Diane (Joseph) Elwell of Chicago; a brother-in-law of James Wenzel of St. Germain; his grandchildren, Anne (Matthew Krug), Kristine, Margaret and Elizabeth Gasser, James and Thomas Walsh, Angela (Darin) Alloy-McFarlin, Peter, Andrew and Carolyn Anich, and Sophie, Matthew and Allison Anich; one great-grandson, Dominic McFarlin; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Joseph, Tony, Paul, Michael and Louis Sr.; a sister, Anne Wenzel; sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Myralyn, Audrey, Dorothy and Jane; and a brother-in-law, Jack Noble.

Visitation will take place from 3 p.m. until the time of an American Legion service at 4:45 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, all at St. James Catholic Church, 830 County Road NN East, Mukwonago. The Rev. Ken Anich will officiate.
