Dorothy Rieber was born Dorothy Marie Gebhardt on Nov. 30, 1914, in Waukesha, to John and Mary Gebhardt.
One of five children, she grew up and attended school at St. Joseph’s Parish. While working in Milwaukee at the office of Sperry Rand Corp., she met and married Bernard "Ben" Rieber. They raised two children, John and Cheryl, as they moved around the country following Ben’s job transfers, and settled for more than 30 years in San Mateo, Calif. Her children grown, Dorothy began her second career in 1961, first as a clerk and later promoted to vice president/branch manager of St. Paul Title Co., retiring in 1985. When her husband of 53 years passed away, Dorothy moved to Irvine, Calif., where she resided at Inn at the Park Retirement Community, near the home of her daughter.
A gentle person, Dorothy was well-liked wherever she lived due to her kind nature and sweet disposition.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty McMillan and Donna Gebhardt of Waukesha; her son, John Rieber; her daughter, Cheryl Hurley; her granddaughter, Greta Rieber; and her grandson, Kelly Wells.
She is buried alongside her husband, Ben, at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
