Richard John Schutta

April 8, 1918 - May 6, 2008

Richard John Schutta of Waukesha died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Waukesha Springs at age 90. Richard was born April 8, 1918, in Milwaukee, the son of Frank and Rose (nee Kluth) Schutta.

He was a graduate of Pulaski High School and went on to work at Johnson Service, Milwaukee Valve and St. Mary’s Hospital. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. He went through Great Lakes Naval Academy and became a machinist mate-engineer. Richard served on the Edward H. Allen No. 531 out of Boston. He played Land o’ Lakes Baseball for Pewaukee where he met his wife, Frances, when she would march at the games. They fell in love and were married Nov. 9, 1946. He was a head maintenance engineer for the Waukesha school system from 1952 until he retired in 1983. Richard was also a longtime member of St. William Catholic Church and an avid bowler and hunter.

Richard will be sadly missed by his daughter, Linda (David) Nielsen of Waukesha; his grandson, Kristopher Nielsen of North Dakota; his brother, Leonard Schutta of Milwaukee; dear friend, Gina Ranieri of Waukesha; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Florence Grenwis of Pewaukee, Eileen Draeger of Pewaukee, Frank (Marge) Draeger of Wisconsin, Patricia (Tom) Nygren of Hillsboro, Ore., and James (Karen) Draeger of St. Louis. Dick is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances M.; his daughter, Nancy; and his mother- and father-in-law, Elsie and Frank Draeger.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. today, May 8, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha. Visitation continues from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, May 9, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery immediately following the service, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, Masses in Richard’s name are appreciated or memorials may be directed to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, 701 Northview Road, Waukesha, WI 53187.
