Romey Schoeninger, 92, of Delafield, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc.
Romey was born and raised in Evanston, Ill. She attended Chicago area schools and graduated with a master’s degree from Northwestern University in 1938. In 1940, she married Joe Schoeninger in Chicago, and in 1945 they moved to Delafield. In 1954, they bought a farm south of Delafield where they lived the rest of their lives.
Romey’s passion was for kindness and respect for all animals, both two and four legged. She was a co-founder of the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County. Romey was a board member and volunteer through the many years of the shelter’s growth and expansion. Her contributions will continue to be respected, as well as life changing for both the animals and people of Waukesha County and all of Wisconsin.
Romey was survived by children, Pete (Harriet) Schoeninger of Merton and Katie (Bill) Klucko of Bozeman, Mont. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Harry Schoeninger (fiancee Ariel Brill-Carson) of Milwaukee and Luke (Shana) Stratford of Big Sky, Mont., and their daughter, Lucy Romeyn Stratford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and three brothers, Chase, Dick and Fritz Hess.
A private family service was held for Romey.
