Doris ‘Dori’ M. Stephan (nee Dirkse)

March 4, 1928 - May 26, 2008

Doris "Dori" M. Stephan (nee Dirkse), 80, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Golden Living Health Care in Watertown. Dori was born March 4, 1928, to the late Wilbert and Jenny Dirkse.

Dori retired from the Masonic Home as a cook/baker after 30 years. She also babysat for many children from the Dousman and Summit areas.

Dori will be greatly missed by her children, Gary (Carole) of Dousman, Alice Chastain of Statesboro, Ga., Ed (Lisa) of Dousman, Nancy Kennedy of Reesville, Janet (Bill) Gauthier of Sussex and Mary (Chuck) Zeck-Crawford of Hahira, Ga. She will also be missed by her 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Dori is also survived by her sister, Shirley (Ralph) Boos of Rome, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dori was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert (Bob); grandson, Shane Foltz; sons-in-law, Mike Zeck and Tom Chastain; sister, Harriet Pike; and brothers, James and Alvin (Bud) Dirkse.

Mom, your love for being outside, enjoying the wonders of nature and conversing with family, friends and neighbors, is something that was instilled in all of us. In our hearts your personality, spirit and unquestioned love will remain with us forever.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 36821 Sunset Drive (Highway 18), Dousman. The Rev. Scott Leannah of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Dousman, will be officiating. A service will follow the visitation. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery immediately following service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the building fund for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Dousman, the Dousman EMT or Golden Living Center, Watertown.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dale Johnson and his nurses for the wonderful support they have given us. Also, thank you to all the nurses and staff through the years that have helped her at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital.
