Robert A. Frye

Robert 'Bob' Ardell Frye, 80, of Waukesha, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Chicago, the son of Otis A. and Amelia (nee Schrode) Frye.
He grew up in and attended schools in Richland County. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1945 to 1947 in the 332nd Engineer Battalion as a construction engineer and then again from 1951 to 1953 in the Korean conflict, 25th Infantry Division, 65th Engineer Battalion. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, Bob worked on a commercial transport ship on the Great Lakes. After retiring as a machinist from Envirex Corp. in 1989, Bob worked as a crossing guard for Waukesha schools, sometimes suiting up as Santa near the Christmas holiday. Bob was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 721, Waukesha.
Survivors include his loving companion of 27 years, Carol Stern of Waukesha; daughter, Susan R. (Jeff) Johnson of Beloit; son, Ronald D. Frye of Waukesha; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Bessie A. Marshall Kelly and Luella G. Cunningham; and two brothers, James M. Frye and Donald R. Foster.
Visitation will be held from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 3, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 W. Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha. Burial to follow with full military honors at St.
Joseph's Cemetery, Waukesha.
