Alice O’Malley

Alice Bronn O’Malley of Waukesha died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at LindenGrove at age 97. She was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Milwaukee, the daughter of John and Emilie (nee Liebenthal) Bronn. 

Alice graduated from Waukesha High School and went on to study at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee for two years. She later married Patrick R. O’Malley on April 18, 1934. For 21 years, she was employed as an administrative assistant for Union Carbide-Linde Products in Milwaukee. After her husband died in 1965, she resided in New Mexico for almost 12 years until returning to Waukesha in 1988. Alice enjoyed volunteering her talents by playing the organ for many groups such as the Order of the Eastern Star and Job’s Daughters. She also volunteered at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha library for 20 years.

Alice is survived by her niece, nephew, and her adopted family, Beatrice Gurke, Don Gurke, Gail and Jeff Wood, Russ and Melissa Gurke, Linda and Michael Berger, and all of their children, Christopher and Ashley Wood, Nick and Jessica Gurke and Ryan and Katelyn Berger. 

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, sister and parents.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon memorial service Saturday, Dec. 6, at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha, WI 53188. Burial of cremated remains will be held privately at Highland Memorial Park. 

Memorials may be made to the church (address above) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
