Leon Carl Stolper

Leon Carl Stolper of Waukesha died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 93.

Leon was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Plymouth, the son of Herbert and Selma (nee Reiss) Stolper. Leon was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church since 1972, having moved to Waukesha in 1971 from Barron, where Leon was director of the Barron County Department of Social Services. Leon started his career as a social worker for the Sheboygan County Department of Public Welfare in 1940, after obtaining a masterís degree in economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has worked as a social worker in Washington County and he was director of the Florence County Department of Social Services. Leon retired in November 1980 as the income maintenance supervisor for the Waukesha County Department of Social Services. Leon has served on many committees and was involved in many activities at Ascension.

Leon will be deeply missed by his wife, Marion; his son, attorney Steven Stolper of Wauwatosa; and his brother, Warren (Jane) Stolper of Middleton. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. funeral service Monday, Nov. 24, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp St., Waukesha, with the Rev. Frank Janzow officiating. Burial will take place at 9 a.m. today, Nov. 25, at Prairie Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Ascension Lutheran Church.
