Mary Mikulecky (nee Shinkunas)

Mary Mikulecky (nee Shinkunas) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at age 81.

She was the beloved wife of Harvey for the past 60 years; loving mother of Linda Chiapete (Richard) of Waukesha, Randall (Susan) of Overland Park, Kan., Dennis (Cheryl) of Beloit and Dan of Oconomowoc; cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Other survivors include a sister, Margie Rose (Elmer) of Racine, and a brother, John Shinkunas of Rosholt.

Born and raised in Racine, she was a longtime member at St. Rita’s Parish and an active member of the Christian Mothers. For the past 33 years, Mary and Harvey have resided in the Dousman area and are devout members of St. Bruno’s Catholic Church.

Mary and Harvey enjoyed traveling and visiting family up until the recent few years. She also enjoyed their monthly sheepshead card games with friends and delivering Meals on Wheels when she could. A favorite activity, and one all the grandchildren looked forward to, was listening to Grandma’s storytelling around the kitchen table.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy; parents, Joseph and Lucy (Petrouske) Shinkunas; sister, Lucille Christensen; and a brother, Jim Shinkunas.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial Mass on Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Dousman. There will be a private burial service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Racine later on Saturday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be given to the St. Bruno Church Building Fund.
