Melanie Ann Kitts

Jan. 18, 1949 - Sept. 18, 2008

Melanie Ann (nee Reeck) Kitts, 59, of Elm Grove and formerly of Palmyra, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at her home.

She was born Jan. 18, 1949, in Trenton, Mich., the daughter of Melvin and Frances (nee Green) Reeck. She attended the one-room LeRoy School in Palmyra before transferring to Adrian High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1967. Melanie completed her schooling in Milwaukee at Patricia Stevens Career College and, while there, she met Jimmy Ray Kitts. The two married Sept. 29, 1968, in Taylor, Mich.

Melanie’s passion was her family. She was a wonderful wife and mother who brought out the best in everyone. She was also a gifted seamstress, sewing samples for fabric stores and making costumes for her daughter’s ballroom dance competitions. As an administrative assistant, Melanie was well-respected in both the medical and financial communities in the Milwaukee area.

As Melanie battled ovarian cancer for the past 15 months, she was lovingly cared for by her family, including her husband of 39 years, Jim; son, Nathan (Diane) Kitts of Ann Arbor, Mich.; daughters, Carmen Blaetter and her children Alexander and Annabella of Lindau, Germany, and Roxanne (Shahbaz AliBaig) Kitts of Waukesha; her parents, Melvin and Frances Reeck of Adrian, Mich.; siblings, Marilyn (Don) Smith of Southfield, Fran Landwehr of Adrian, Jack (Linda) Reeck of Britton, Mich., Donna (Briscoe) Ellett of Freeland, Mich., Audrey (Jim) Kazimir of Lake Hopatcong, N.J., Andrea Miller of Franklin, Dr. Benjamin (Sandy) Reeck of Imlay City, Mich., and Barbara (David) Wagley of Adrian. Also surviving are many delightful nieces and nephews.

At Melanie’s request, cremation has taken place. Friends may visit Melanie’s family from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Church and Chapel Funeral Service, 1875 N. Calhoun Road, Brookfield, for a service to celebrate her life.
