Robert C. Simmons

Robert C. Simmons passed away at age 67 on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008.

He was the dear husband of Jane and the proud dad of Steven and Angela. He struggled through 19 years of cancer treatment so that he could be with his kids. He is also survived by his sisters Beverly (the late Jack) Scott, Kathy Hagen and Karen (the late Bill) Lucas and families; Jane’s siblings, Tom (Diane) Jekel and Judy (Mike) Ezzell and families; and many other friends and relatives.

His parents, Lyle and Grace; brother, John; in-laws, Hank and Marge Jekel; and other family members passed before him.

For 25 years Bob was a school bus mechanic at Hank’s Transportation. He was not able to work for years, but didn’t consider himself disabled. He tried to do everything he did before, sometimes to the dismay of his family. He would have given anything to get up early, go to work and come home after putting in an honest day’s work.

Bob started his medical journey at Waukesha Memorial, had a bone marrow transplant at St. Luke’s in 1990 and then 18 more years at Waukesha and Oncology Alliance. He received excellent care and support at each. No words can express our thanks to Dr. Sanchez and staff for the years of hope, help and support they gave us. Bob was at Zilber Family Hospice for six weeks and received great care from Dr. Glenn Ragalie and staff.

We would have never made it over the last 19 years without the support of co-workers and management at Hank’s Transportation and Waukesha County, friends, family, Northwest Baptist Church and many others. Thank you all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Kyle Petty’s Victory Junction Camp or any charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until the noon funeral service Saturday, Sept. 20, at Harder Funeral Home, 18700 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield.

Harder Funeral Home is serving the family. For more information, call 781-8350 or visit online at
