Gladys M. Pope, a former longtime resident of Crookston, Minn., died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha at the age of 102. She was born Jan. 12, 1907, in Shelly, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Constance (Johnson) Moen.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Sullivan, in 1943; her second husband, Ray Pope, in 1963; and her son, William Sullivan.

Our mother was a gentle, soft-spoken woman who faced life’s challenges with courage and kindness. We will carry her love and inspiration with us always. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held in the summer in Crookston, Minn. Her final resting place will be in Shelly Cemetery in Minnesota.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caretakers at Virginia Health and Rehabilitation who took such loving care of Gladys, and to Odyssey Hospice, whose gentle care eased her final days. We bless you all.
