Gilbert Albert Mehling, 69, of Charles Town, W.Va., formerly of Waukesha, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at City Hospital. Born Nov. 24, 1939, in Waukesha, he was the son of the late Gilbert M. Mehling and Caroline Nelson Mehling

He was a loving and caring husband, brother, father and grandfather. He was semi-retired and self-employed as a systems analyst and Web site designer. He was a volunteer of the local American Red Cross chapter, C&O Canal Bike Patrol and Jefferson County CERT member. He had served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and marksman.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Mehling; mother-in-law, Christine Perun; one sister, Jean Vergenz and husband Sandy in Florida; one brother, Peter Mehling and wife Kathy and aunt Clara Daniels in Wisconsin; his sons, Michael Mehling and wife Kathy, Darren and wife Beckie, both in Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his many family members and friends.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, U.S. 340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, W.Va., with the Rev. Jay Watson officiating.
