Grace M. Lurvey (nee Olden)

July 20, 1921 - April 22, 2009

Grace M. Lurvey, 87, of Delafield, was born to eternal life with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Shorehaven Health Center. She was born July 20, 1921, in Valley Falls, Kan., to Charles E. and Grace E. Olden.

Grace married LeRoy H. Lurvey on Feb. 7, 1942. They had met while working at St. Johnís Military Academy in Delafield. LeRoy preceded her in death in 1976. After his death, Grace went to work at the Olympia Resort and was employed there for 25 years. In 2002, Grace sold her home, which her husband had helped to build, and went to live at the Hillside Senior Apartments in Delafield, where she truly enjoyed the friendships she made and social activities she was able to participate in.

Grace was a member of Delafield Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She also was a 50-year charter member of the P.E.O. Chapter CU, a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Oconomowoc-Hartland Chapter 13, and a charter member of the Legion Auxiliary in Delafield. Grace also was very diligent in maintaining contact with 13 girls in her Sub-Deb Club from high school. They all continued to correspond with each other for more than 70 years.

Grace is survived by her two children, Barbara Harris of Las Vegas and Robert (Cheryl) Lurvey of Oconomowoc; four grandchildren, Mark (Rie) Sabraw II of Honolulu, Scott (Dawn) Sabraw of Henderson, Nev., Katherine (Steve) Bockhorst of Souderton, Pa., and Jill Lurvey of Oconomowoc; four great-grandchildren, Natalie Bockhorst, Erika Sabraw, Mark Sabraw III and Anais Grace Sabraw; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Olden of Topeka, Kan., and Lorraine Lurvey of Oconomowoc; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Charles H. Olden of Topeka; her sister, Ruth E. Edgette of Superior; and most recently, her brother-in-law, Ralph Lurvey of Delafield.

Visitation will be held from noon until the 3 p.m. funeral service Saturday, May 2, at Delafield Presbyterian Church, 1851 N. Genesee St., Delafield. Burial will take place immediately following at Ottawa Cemetery.

It was Graceís wish that in lieu of flowers, all memorials be given to the Fund of Remembrance at the Delafield Presbyterian Church, 1851 N. Genesee St., Delafield, WI 53018.

Special thanks to the staff that cared for Grace while she was at Shorehaven, the staff at the Oconomowoc Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Pam Bamrah and, finally, to her niece, Carol Hosfield of Superior, for the many cards, letters, phone calls and visits to Grace over the years.
