Donald ‘Don’ Larson Howie
July 23, 1921 - July 31, 2009
Donald "Don" Larson Howie of Waukesha, formerly of Oconomowoc, found peace Friday, July 31, 2009, at the age of 88. Don was born July 23, 1921, in Arkdale, the son of the late Wallace and Alice Howie.
He will be fondly remembered by his dear wife of 58 years, Marge; his children, Scott of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Kay of Mequon, Sharon "Shari" and Timothy "Tim" of Waukesha; his grandchildren,Katie (Dwayne) Chojnacki, Jessica Howie, Lauren Howie Laur and T.J. Howie; his great-grandchildren, Shelby, Austin, Memphis and Carson Chojnacki; his loving sister, Aggie (Howard) Scheunemann of Oconomowoc; and his loving brother, Wallace Howie Jr. of Hartland. He is further survived by loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sisters, Ginny Rockwell and Janet Zautner.
Don was a very proud veteran and honorably served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the service, he went to work for Fox Head Brewery in Waukesha and eventually retired from Amron Corp. in Waukesha.
Don loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was well known for his gardening and inherited his green thumb from his father and grew raspberries, tomatoes and was well known on Broadway in Waukesha for his Rose of Sharon bushes. Don also enjoyed making wine.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. today, Aug. 4, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. James T. Volkert officiating. Interment followed with a procession to St. Joseph Cemetery.
