Robert Earl Schrader, 83, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Aurora, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Lutheran Hillside Village Health Care. He was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Leland, Ill., the son of the late Earl and Gertrude (George) Schrader.
Mr. Schrader graduated from Northwestern University in 1950, where he was a proud member of Delta Si Pi fraternity after he served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division in the European theater. After college, he was employed for more than 40 years with McKee Door Co. as a sales manager. He was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion in Leland, Ill., and Mason Lodge No. 558 for many years. Robert Earl was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed all sports, but particularly basketball.
Robert Earl Schrader was a faithful, loving husband and a kind and generous father.
He is survived by his sons, Brian (Debbie) Schrader of Waukesha and Dr. Steven (Linda) Schrader of Peoria, Ill.; his five grandchildren, Christopher Schrader of Goodfellow AFB, Texas, Carrie Schrader of Waukesha, Abbey Schrader of Peoria, Ill., Michael Schrader of Peoria Ill., and Joseph Schrader of Peoria, Ill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Schrader, in 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, Ill., with the Rev. Paul Park officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
