Robert E. ‘Bob’ Schmitt

Robert E. "Bob" Schmitt of Waukesha died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 68. He was born in Carroll, Iowa, on June 27, 1941, the son of Paul and Agnes Ann (nee Reiff) Schmitt.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 until 1965. On Oct. 15, 1966, he married Arlene Parkins at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pewaukee. Bob worked for many years as a plumber. He was a member of the Plumbers Union No. 75, a charter member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 721, a member of 5 O’clock Cronies Coffee Club at McDonald’s on West Avenue and of the Masonic Lodge.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Arlene, and their children, Paul (Nicole) Schmitt of Brookfield, Karen (Randy) Polakowski of Appleton, Mark (Beth) Schmitt of Waukesha, Mike (Kelly) Schmitt of Waukesha and Matthew (Victoria Henschel) Schmitt of Waukesha. He was the dear grandfather of seven grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, Hannah, Jacob, Ray, Tyler and Amelie. He is further survived by his brother, Richard (Barbara) Schmitt of New Jersey, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from noon until the 3 p.m. funeral Mass on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 W. Highway 59, Waukesha. The Rev. James Loehr will preside. Military honors will follow the funeral Mass at the church. A private family burial will he held at Calvary Cemetery in Wautoma.
