Bernice A. Lueck (nee Hornbeck)

Bernice A. Lueck (nee Hornbeck), 93, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Waukesha Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing Home after suffering a fall at her home. She was born May 23, 1916, in Palmyra, to Raymond and Lily (Melster) Hornbeck.

She was married to John A. Lueck on Jan. 30, 1932, in Waukegan, Ill. He preceded her in death in October 2004 after 72 years of marriage.

For eight years, they owned and operated a grocery store in Palmyra. They later farmed in Palmyra and Eagle until John retired from farming in 1970, when they moved to Mukwonago. They resided in Mukwonago until John’s death in 2004. Bernice then moved to Racine with her daughter, Joyce, and son-in-law, Jerry Babcock, until her death.

She traveled extensively with her daughter and sonin-law to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and various states, with frequent trips to Florida. Her favorite trip was an Alaskan cruise in 2007.

Bernice is survived by her son, Jack Lueck of Waukesha; daughter, Joyce (Jerry) Babcock of Racine; three grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Schellinger and his staff, along with Waukesha Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, for their excellent care.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Mealy’s Funeral Home, 103 W. Eagle St., Eagle, with the Rev. Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Hillside Cemetery in Palmyra.
