Catherine Susan Cibik (nee Slezak)

Catherine Susan Cibik (nee Slezak) passed away in the arms of her family
at the Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, Ala., on Monday, Nov. 30,
Survivors include her husband, Philip Cibik; two sisters, Josephine Huston
of San Diego and Hedy Jessen of Wautoma; her daughter, Tina, and husband,
Jim Palkert of Vestal N.Y., grandchildren, Lisa, Gabriel and Jayson
Palkert, and great-grandchildren, Alaina and Evan Palkert; her son,
Frederick Cibik, and wife, Ann Boyd of Shorewood, and grandchildren, Fred
and Cassie Cibik, Christopher and Katy Fleischman; daughter, Claire Ann
Cibik of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Camilla Berg and H. Jane Olsen, and
her parents, John and Helen Slezak.
Catherine was a primary grade-school teacher, mother and professional
nanny. Catherine took great joy in watching children grow and learn.
Catherine was an avid reader her entire life. She enjoyed classical music
and loved good books. She donated her eyes to the eye bank so another
could continue the gift of sight to share her lifelong passion of reading.
Catherine was a 34-year Waukesha resident, where she lived with her
family. She then retired to the North Woods of Wisconsin in Bruce, on the
banks of the Chippewa River, and spent winters in Orange Beach, Ala.
Throughout her lifetime, Catherine traveled extensively, most recently
enjoying an Alaskan cruise with her family to celebrate her and Phil’s
55th wedding anniversary.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Friends of the Library, Rusk
County Community Library Foundation Inc., 418 W. Corbett Ave., Ladysmith,
Catherine’s family will be forever grateful for the love and support she
received during her recent illness and courageous battle.
