Richard G. Hazelton

Richard G. Hazelton, of Waukesha and former resident of Racine and Florida, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at VITAS Innovative Hospice in Wauwatosa at the age of 85.

A distinguished veteran of World War II, Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tripoli, the USS Nehetna Bay and the USS Thetis Bay. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and was awarded numerous medals and decorations. Richard was married to Marian (Hjortness) on March 4, 1950, and the two raised a son and two daughters. Richard was employed by Western Publishing and was an avid sailor and a longtime member of the Racine Yacht Club. After his retirement, Richard and his wife relocated to Florida where they spent 15 wonderful years before moving to Waukesha to be closer to family.

Richard will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of more than 59 years, Marian; his son, Tim (Kelly) Hazelton of Waukesha; and his daughter, Sharon Marie Hazelton of Union Grove. He also leaves a sister, Shirley Lantz of Wild Rose and Florida; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Sandra.

At this time, no services are scheduled. A funeral service with full military honors will be held in the spring at Union Grove Cemetery.
