Wayne L. Oberlin

Wayne L. Oberlin of Waukesha, surrounded by his children, died on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at AngelsGrace Hospice, at the age of 95 years.

 

Wayne was born Aug. 3, 1914, the son of Edwin and Nellie (Crites) Oberlin. Wayne married the love of his life, Jeanne, and they shared 67 years together. He graduated from Ohio State in 1938 in chemical engineering. He participated in the Calvary squad that was available at that time at Ohio State. Wayne was also a member of the menís tennis team. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Port Arthur, Texas.

 

Wayne relocated from Michigan to Wisconsin in 1949 and designed two homes in the Waukesha area. He was the founder and president of Oberlin Filter Co. in 1965 and was active with his company into his early 80s. The company is now in its third generation of family. It is also involved with many industries, such as metal working and waste treatment, both in the U.S. and internationally. Wayne also enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis, bridge and Alamanderís square dancing.  

 

Wayne will be dearly missed by his son, Tom (Regina) Oberlin of Brookfield; daughter, Mary (Mike) Ignatowski of Waukesha; nine grandchildren, Audrey, Mark, Laura, Andrew, Ted, Casey, Kristin, Jon and Peter;  great-grandchildren, Zoe, Adam, Craig and Joseph. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife and son David.

 

The visitation for Wayne will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the 11:30 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Dec. 26 at the Merrill Hills Country Club, W270-S3425 Merrill Hills Road, Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waukesha County Land Conservancy, P.O. Box 2572, Brookfield, WI  53008 or the Food Pantry of Waukesha County, 215 W. North St., Waukesha, WI  53188.
