Emmett E. Mather

Emmett E. Mather of Waukesha died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 86. Emmett was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Milwaukee, the son of George and Lillian Mather.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post No. 8. Emmett and Hazel were former owners of The Mather Lanes in Muskego. After retirement, they moved to Camp Douglas/Hustler for more than 20 years and recently returned to Waukesha.

Emmett will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years, Hazel, whom he married Feb. 28, 1942, in Greendale; and his children, Jim (Gerda) Mather of Waukesha, Tom (Marlene) Mather of Muskego, Rick (Cookie) Mather of Mukwonago, Marilyn Stachowski of Medford, Susie Bennett (Jim) of Waukesha, Shelby (Marty) Scherr of West Allis and Charlotte "Jo" Hense (Larry) of Milwaukee. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Earl Lederhaus of Waupaca; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Emmett is preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, John Stachowski, and 11 brothers and sisters.

A memorial service for Emmett will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 S. East Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Peter Schmidt will officiate. Military honors will take place following the service. The visitation will take place from 3 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.
