David F. Armitage

Aug. 16, 1922 - Feb. 5, 2009

David F. Armitage died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at age 86. He was born in Waukesha on Aug. 16, 1922, to David and Gladys (nee Aitken) Armitage.

On March 31, 1956, he married Mary Drotning of Stoughton. He graduated from Waukesha High School and entered the service. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II, serving in both New Guniea and the Phillipines. After returning home, he became a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard. David began his career at the Fire Insurance Rating Bureau in Milwaukee. He transferred to the Western Actuarial Bureau in Chicago, where he retired after 30 years of service. He and his wife Mary retired to Waukesha to be near friends and family.

David was an avid member of the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose International, Masonic Lodge No. 37 F&AM and the American Legion D.J. Martin Post No. 8.

He is survived by his sister, Sally Bakkom of Waukesha; nephew, David Bakkom of Cedar Grove; and niece, Susan (Scott) Thompson and family of Waukesha.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Armitage; brother, John Armitage; and brother-in-law, Dick Bakkom.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral services Saturday, Feb. 21 at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
