Gene F. Stagman

April 20, 1928 - Feb. 13, 2009

Gene Franklin Stagman, 80, of Big Flats, passed away peacefully in hospice care Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah.

Gene was born April 20, 1928, in Wyalusing to Clarence and Mary (Levens) Stagman. He joined the Navy at the age of 17, a veteran of World War II. While stationed in Boston he met the love of his life, Janet Biladeau, and they were wed in 1951. Together they had six children. Janet preceded him in death in June of 1968.

In 1971, he married Mary Jane Hoffman, who helped raise his family. She passed away in 2003.

Gene retired as a tool and die craftsman from V&L Tool of Waukesha in 1990 and moved to God's Country, Adams-Friendship, in 1995. While retired, he enjoyed many years on his mini-farm and his other passions of traveling, hunting, fishing and gardening. Gene was a member of the American Legion Red Cloud Post No. 250.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet (1968); wife, Mary (2003); son, Mark (1980); and brothers, Clarence "Buzz" Stagman and Edward Pitzer.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Mike) Collins of Waukesha; his sons, Kevin Stagman of Westfield, Douglas Stagman of Burlington, Brian Stagman of Plymouth and Bradley Stagman of West Allis; his brothers, Charles (Helen) Stagman of Bagley, Jim (Mary) Pitzer of Prairie du Chien, Ronald (Diane) Pitzer of Eastman and Arthur (Marilyn) Pitzer of Wauzeka; his sister, Burnita (John) Johnson of Eastman; grandchildren, Shaun (Lisa) Piller of Waukesha, Brianna Collins of Waukesha, Mark Collins of Waukesha, Nicole Stagman and Krystal Stagman; and great-grandchildren, Kaeden and Katelyn Piller of Waukesha. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Tomah VA Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion in easing Genes passing.

Friends were invited to call Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship on Sunday, Feb. 15, and at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien on Monday, Feb. 16.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Garrity Funeral Home, 704 S. Ohio St., Prairie du Chien. Al Huber officiated. Interment will be at the Bagley Cemetery in Grant County.
