James Louis Howard

James Louis Howard, 72, of Sun City West, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home after a short struggle with lung cancer on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. He was born in Beloit on June 21, 1936. Jim lived most of his life in Waukesha and moved to Sun City West in 2000.

Full of life until the end, Jamesí life was marked by love for his family, his friends and by enriching the lives of others through a prayer, a friendly conversation or by helping them carry their lifeís load. Always working to better any community of which he was a part, Jim was a Rotarian, a docent at the West Valley Art Museum, a Steven Minister and council member at New Song Methodist Church, an Elk, a member of the Waukesha County Historical Society and the Waukesha County Republican Party.

Jim was hardworking, loved to travel and was a lifelong learner. Making friends wherever he went, Jim served as a Waukesha police officer from 1967 to 1992, rising to the rank of sergeant. Following that career, he became a private investigator, a cook and a product sample specialist for Samís Club. His proudest moments, however, were spent being a great husband, a loving dad and grandpa and a friendly neighbor.

James is survived by his loving wife, Juanita of Sun City West, Ariz.; children, Christine Miller, David Howard, Mark (Deborah) Howard, Tom Howard, Robert (Beth) Howard, Sue Sienko, Cinder Crider, Carl (Julie) Hubbard, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Grace (Yake) Howard; brother, Kenneth Howard; daughter, Cathy Howard; and wives, Linda and Verna.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at New Song United Methodist Church, 16303 West Bell Road, Surprise, Ariz.
