Ellis H. ‘Ellie’ Hughes

April 8, 1923 - Jan. 24, 2009

Ellis H. "Ellie" Hughes, a lifelong resident of Waukesha, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at age 85. He was born April 8, 1923, to Ellis B. and Madge (nee Heimel) Hughes.

Ellie proudly served his country for 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was owner/operator of West St. Paul Garage in Waukesha for many years and was a proud businessman. He was very involved in the community and belonged to several organizations including D.J. Martin American Legion Post No. 8, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Waukesha Lodge No. 37, Free & Accepted Masons, Waukesha Commandery No. 23 K.T., Waukesha Chapter No. 37, Royal Arch Masons, Waukesha Council No. 29, Royal & Select Masters and the former Ina J. Reid Chapter No. 55 Order of the Eastern Star, which is now LaBelle Chapter No. 40.

Everyone who knew Ellie knows he always had a kind word to say, a story to share or a joke to tell. He will be missed.

He was the father of six, a grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, from 4 p.m. until the 6:30 p.m. Masonic service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Burial with full military honors will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Prairie Home Cemetery; please meet at the cemetery office.
