Raymond H. Hintz

Raymond H. Hintz, 94, of Union Grove, passed away at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans’ Home Saturday, July 11, 2009. He was born Feb. 22, 1915, to Ernest and Lena (nee Boernke) Hintz in Wausau.

A member of the Navy from 1941 to 1945, he served in North Africa and deployed as an on-shore radio man onto the Normandy beaches in the first wave on D-Day. He achieved the rank of chief petty officer and received a Combat Infantry Badge for his service during World War II. Raymond also served in the Navy during the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1953. He married Eleanor (nee Hogan) in 1944 and together they raised two children in Waukesha, where they lived for 50 years. He worked as an engineer technician for Milwaukee Journal Communications for 30 years. Raymond was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Waukesha. He enjoyed gardening and working on radios and televisions in his spare time.

Raymond is survived by his son, Douglas (Susan) Hintz of California; his grandchildren, Jeani and Jennifer; his seven great-grandchildren; his son-in-law, Steven; and his sister, Janet.

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Laurie Bassett; and his parents, Ernest and Lena Hintz.
