Virginia M. ‘Virgie’ Santiago

Virginia M. ‘Virgie’ Santiago, 78, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Friday, July 17, 2009.

She was the loving and devoted mother of Sylvia (Jeff) Lang, Phillip (Tracy) Santiago, Christina Santiago, Senen Jr. (Steve) Santiago and Josie (Dan) Peterson. She also was loved by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Senen, and three sons, Alfonso C. Santiago, Peter C. Santiago and Tony C. Santiago.

Virgie was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Capulin, N.M. Her parents were Phillip and Edith (Wilson) Hernandez. After graduating from high school, she married Senen Santiago. He was her husband and soul mate for 53 years before passing away in 2005. Over the years, she worked for Waukesha Memorial Hospital, the Virginia Nursing Home, and then she retired from Avalon Manor after 15 years of service as a CNA.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at Church and Chapel, 380 Bluemound Road, Waukesha. Services will begin at 6 p.m. Private burial will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery.
