Joseph N. "Joe Bigg of Waukesha passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 24, 2009, at the age of 68 years.

Joe was born in Waukesha on Dec. 18, 1940, the son of Joseph and Katherine (nee Horvat) Bigg. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retiree from the Waukesha School District. His greatest joy in life was his family, and he loved his grandchildren and spending time with them was a source of pride. Joe is loved and will be deeply missed.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Lawrence) of 39 years and by his mother, Katherine Bigg. Joe also is survived by children, Katherine (Todd) Pieper, Kay (Michael) Clabault and Jennifer (Dean) Binder; and grandchildren, Megan, Darnell, Jon, Katie, Scot, Christopher, Brandon and Madeline; and great-grandson, Cooper.

Joe is further survived by sisters, Nancy Sommers, Mary Ann (Albert) Dahl, Delores Bigg and Deborah (Frank) Hellenthal. He is the brother-in-law of Jitts (JoAn) Lawrence, Gary (Carol) Lawrence and Alice Lawrence. He also is survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and sister, Catherine.

Visitation for Joe will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the First Congregational Church, 100 E. Broadway in Waukesha, followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Anthony Ruggeri and to the staff at Oncology Alliance and to the staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital for the love and care given to Joe.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Congregational Church would be appreciated.
