Betty A. Ristow

Betty A. Ristow, a retired commander of the U.S. Navy and former resident of Pewaukee, joined her heavenly father Friday, June 5, 2009, in Burlington, Wash.

She is survived by her husband, Gale Lowell, stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

Betty was the loving daughter of Elizabeth (nee Jekel) Ristow. She was the dear sister of Carolyn (Richard) O’Neill, John M. (Judie) Ristow, Robert Ristow, Merry (Kirk Imse) Ristow and Paul H. (Sunshine) Ristow.

She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends in the Pewaukee Area.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Martin E. Ristow and first husband, Martin Rachlin.

She served her country for 27 years as a nurse in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank of Commander, where she received numerous awards and citations, including the Distinguished Navy Person of the Year award and several for activities in Desert Storm. She was also named by Who’s Who in Outstanding Young Women of America.

A memorial service is to take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church, W240-N3103 Pewaukee Road in City of Pewaukee (Highway 164 south of Capitol Drive). The Rev. Richard Krause officiating.

Betty will be buried at sea with full military honors by the U.S. Navy she loved and served.

Memorials in Betty’s name to Christ Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
