Paul Helker, 82, of Waukesha, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009, at his residence. He was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Platteville, the son of John and Elizabeth Helker.
Paul grew up in Waukesha and graduated from Waukesha High School and attended Waukesha Technical College.
Paul served in the U.S. Army with the 12th Armored Division, and was an eyewitness to the horrors as they liberated the concentration camp at Dachau in April 1945.
Paul was a founding member of St. Markís Lutheran Church in Waukesha and was the owner, together with his wife, Phyllis, of Qua-Tech Television in Waukesha. Paul was proud of the fact that he was the original "television man" in Waukesha. He was a member of the 12th Armored Division Association.
Paul was the beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Poeppel) for 61 years. He is also survived by his sons, Kurk (Sue) Helker and Mark (fiancee Beth) Helker. He was the special uncle of Raymond (Judy) Hatch and Randy Demmitt. Paul is further survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service Monday, June 15, at St. Markís Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Highland Memorial Park in New Berlin.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Mar, for her special love and care given to Paul.
