Rita J. Carter, 83, formerly of Delafield and Mission, Texas, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at Watertown Regional Medical Center.
Rita was born Nov. 13, 1925, in De Pere, the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Torrien) Smits. On June 14, 1947, she married Earl F. Carter at the National Shrine of St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. Rita had been a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Earl; children, Glenn Carter of Fort Atkinson, Thomas Carter of Mobile, Ala., James (Jaclyn) Carter of Waterloo, Eileen Mary (Neil) Mooers of Delafield, Margaret Ann (Dr. Craig) Mullen of Rochester, N.Y., and Paul F. (Angelique) Carter of Oconomowoc; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Randall (June) Smits of Townsend and Elwood (Laurel) Smits of Riverside, Calif.; a sister, Sister Eileen Smits of Chile, South America; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Jerome Smits.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home And Cremation Service, 500 Welsh Road, Watertown. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at St. Bernardís Catholic Church in Watertown with the Rev. Thomas Marr officiating.
