James D. Szymkowski

James D. Szymkowski, 71, of Dousman, passed away at his residence Wednesday, March 4, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 8, 1937, in Mukwonago, the son of Daniel and Lucille (nee Walton) Szymkowski.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Palmyra High School. He married his high-school sweetheart, Frances, in May 1959.
He retired in 2002 after many years as a construction site-superintendent at Voss, Jorgenson and Schueler. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of American Local 344. Jim was a veteran of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing poker, and he was an avid hunter.
Jim will be sadly missed by his wife, Frances (nee Northey), of Dousman; children, Mark (Julie) of Whitewater, Darcy (Eric) McKellar of Glendora, Calif., Renee (Jay) Obenberger of Oconomowoc and Todd (fiancee Rebecca Yao) of McFarland; mother, Lucille Szymkowski of Palmyra; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy (Lyle) Traeder of Adams, Kathleen (Walter) Kinateder of Jefferson, Mary Jane Williams of Palmyra and Christine (Eric) Nelson of Monroe Center. Jim is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Szymkowski.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, N2895 Highway E, Palmyra, with the Rev. Lawrence Turner officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church Saturday. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery with full military honors.
