Wyeth Gehrke of Waukesha died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 82.
Wyeth was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Milwaukee, the son of Arnold and Elsie Gehrke. Wyeth married the love of his life, Lillian Abel, on Jan. 17, 1953. Wyeth was employed as a U.S. letter carrier for the Postal Service for more than 37 years. He was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waukesha. Wyeth proudly served in the United States Army for two years and also served as a member of the Craig-Schlosser Legion Post #31 and the General Charles King Post. Wyeth’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for being a selfless and exceptional friend to all he knew.
Wyeth will be dearly missed by his wife, Lillian; children, Janice, Jeffry (Ann) and James (Ingvild) Gehrke; grandchildren, Eric, Rachel, Sequoia, Picabia, Maitreya and Arachine; brother, Gwenn; other relatives and many friends.
Wyeth is preceded in death by his daughter, Joanne; parents; and brother, Hilborn.
The funeral service for Wyeth will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 White Rock Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Scott Oelhafen will officiate. The visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the 6 p.m. service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Graceland Cemetery, Milwaukee (meet at the cemetery).
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
