Claire J. Turner

July 28, 1917 - March 29, 2009

Claire J. Turner, 91, of Waupaca, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Crystal River Nursing Home in Waupaca. He was born in the town of Belmont, Portage County, on July 28, 1917, the son of Fred DeAlbert and Florence (nee Bucknell) Turner.

Claire graduated from Almond High School in 1935. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force. Claire married Marjorie Hartsworm on July 18, 1945, in Waupaca. She preceded him in death Nov. 30, 2002. He worked at the Waukesha Foundry starting in 1941 and retiring in 1981. Claire enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, gardening and fishing. He enjoyed the time he spent camping with the family when the children were young. His favorite vacation was with Marjorie when they spent two weeks in Hawaii. Claire also treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Ronald (Mary) Turner of Mukwonago; daughter-in-law, Karen Turner of Almond; grandchildren, Beth Turner of La Crosse and Kyle Turner of Almond; and brother, Merle (Adora) Turner of Almond. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; a son, Timothy Turner; three sisters, Marie Harvey, Leah Wenzel and Doris Ryan; and a brother, John Turner.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, April 2, at Parfreyville United Methodist Church in Waupaca, with the Rev. Joan Frost officiating. Interment will be in Barton Cemetery in the town of Farmington.

The family would like to thank Crystal River Nursing Home for being Claire’s second family and taking such good care of him.
