MENOMONEE FALLS

Arleen I. Koenigs (nee Hengst)

Arleen I. Koenigs (nee Hengst) was born to joyous eternal life Friday, May 22, 2009, at age 78. She died from complications of pneumonia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore M. Koenigs, in 2001.

She was the cherished mother of Karl (Sue) of Marinette, Larry of Erin, Kathy Surges (Bruce) of New Berlin, Lisa Ann of Menomonee Falls and Kurtis, her most beloved and special son, also of Menomonee Falls. She was the proud grandmother of Jason (Kristi), Ryan, Traci, Reece, Holly, Jade, Drake, Michael, Mariah, Drew and her favorite dog, Gussie. Arleen is survived by several brothers and sisters as well as her friend of 50 years, Evelyn Murray of Menomonee Falls.

Arleen was born as one of 13 children on a farm in Rib Lake. Arleen was a loving mother to Kurtis, making all of his food with her own hands for over two decades. Her tireless efforts on his behalf led her to establish the first consortium in the state of Wisconsin so he would always have a home. Arleen was an active volunteer at St. Anthony’s Parish for many years as well as in several organizations for the developmentally disabled. An accomplished baker, gardener and winemaker, Arleen won a grand champion ribbon for her raspberry wine at the Wisconsin State Fair.

We will miss her wit, her laughter, her love and her cookies.

In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted on behalf of Waukesha County Special Olympics.
