A longtime founding Hartland businessman, Herb Jackson Jr., 87, of Auburndale, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Auburndale, Fla.
Jackson grew up in Hartland and graduated from Hartland Grade and High School. He served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Theater, from 1942-46. Following his naval duties, he raised his family and worked for, and eventually purchased, his parentsí family business, Jacksonís Department Store in downtown Hartland, from the mid-1950s to 1983. While living in Hartland, Herb Jackson was an active member of the Hartland Chamber of Commerce, president of the Hartland Downtown Business Association, volunteer member of the Hartland Fire Department for 20 years, treasurer of St. Anskar Episcopal Church Building Fund, member of the Bark River Development Group, president of the Oconomowoc Bowling Association, lifetime member of Veterans Post 5158 and 63-year member of the Hartland American Legion Post 0294.
He is survived by his partner, Vee Joyce of Auburndale, Fla., as well as his children, Greg Jackson of Waupaca, Jeff and Lauren Jackson of Jupiter, Fla., Sherry (Jackson) Brisch of Wauwatosa and Jaye (Jackson) and Joel Sperling of Delavan; as well as grandchildren, Brett and Nicole Jackson, Kylee and Graham Brisch, and Alex and Ian Suminski and Keaton Sperling; and great-grandchild, Bella Marsh.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Nov. 3, at St. David Episcopal Church in Lakeland, Fla., with a luncheon to immediately follow at the Hamptonís Clubhouse in Auburndale.
